Valiant Efforts

Hey All,

Well, I'm writing to you with a heavy heart as the UW just lost to Ohio State, 33-14 in a valiantly fought football game. Unfortunately the breaks did not go our way and we weren't able to overcome the momentum that OSU generated in the second half. Sad day here in Colorado watching my boys get pummeled. Still, hope springs eternal on the Montlake Cut and soon enough, we'll see the fruits of their labors paying off in big game victories on their way to restoring the UW to it's rightful place as a national football powerhouse. "Mighty are the men who wear the purple and the gold..."

Despite the grief that I feel like I'm going through over the game, we did have a spectacular day. The sun was out and we took a trip out to "The Garden of the Gods" in Colorado Springs. This great park is about 25 minutes from where we are in Palmer Lake and is a majestic series of red rock formations jutting up with sharp edges and beautifully formed shapes. Apparently when seen from above, the rocks resemble the spine of a dinosaur. A little deeper into the park there is "Balanced Rock" which is an extremely large boulder delicately balanced quite a ways up on a pedestal that seems to have no business supporting it. Definitely precarious and definitely amazing. We headed out to the Garden with about 8 folks in total and spent the day weaving in and out of the rocks, enjoying the glorious (and intense) sunshine and a fun picnic lunch before heading off to watch the Huskies battle their hearts out in a game that could have gone either way. [You did us proud boys.]

Being the weekend, many people who live nearby have left to take care of things at home so we are likely going to just have a game night here before typing our first term paper (we have 2 due this coming week.) I have included a couple of pictures below of our outing today so that you can see a glimpse of what we saw today. Take care.

Love,
S&K
